Research and Performance Metrics Manager

DIVISION OF TOURISM, FILM AND THE ARTS

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Research & Performance Metrics Manager within the Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts (TFA), Office of Tourism Development (OTD).  The primary responsibility of this position is to provide economic and market research, analysis and evaluation for the division, as well as the Office of Sports Marketing.  These functions help guide the division's leadership in providing comprehensive and integrated investment in and promotion of Maryland's quality of life assets as well as deliver technical and financial assistance and incentives to the tourism, arts and film industries.  Essential duties include coordinating, analyzing and reporting performance metrics for the entire division (MFRs/State Stat/GDU); tracking, analyzing and reporting the economic impact of tourism and evaluating the value of the industry to Maryland's economy; tracking and analyzing Maryland and U.S. visitor volume, trip trends and visitor profiles, providing guidance on product development and marketing, including allocation of staff and budget resources; tracking the performance and measuring the effectiveness of Maryland Office of Tourism's programs to ensure the highest return on the State's investments; and serving as a resource for TFA stakeholders, both public and private sector, and collaborative sister agencies.

The ideal candidate is capable of working with internal and external clients in both the public and the private sectors, synthesizing information from disparate sources, and conducting technical tourism research.  Candidates must possess outstanding written and oral communication skills, a broad knowledge of government information sources, the ability to work independently and to complete assignments and projects in a team environment.  Candidates should be proficient in Word, Excel, Access, or other Windows-based software. The ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high-priority tasks is essential.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in business or economic research, marketing, planning or a closely related field.   Possession of a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning is preferred, but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
