OECD Development Centre Internship in Paris

The OECD Development Centre is a special body of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation of Development (OECD) linking OECD members with developing and emerging economies. The Development Centre produces high-quality analysis and fosters dialogue to identify creative policy solutions to emerging global issues and development challenges. 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated trainee to join the Centre’s gender team, based in Paris. The trainee will assist the team on its two flagship initiatives, the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) and the www.wikigender.org platform.  The Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) was first launched by the OECD Development Centre in 2009 as an innovative measure of the underlying drivers of gender inequality for over 100 countries. A second version was launched in 2012 and the third edition will be launched in November 2014.  This will include revision of the detailed country analysis and rescoring of the variables that make up the Index, as well as in-depth country studies. In addition, the first country pilot of the SIGI was launched in Uganda in 2013 with preliminary results due in October 2014.

The trainee will be expected to:
• Contribute to the finalization of SIGI 2014 by assisting the team with research, analysis, editing and production of texts
• Supporting quantitative/econometric analysis of SIGI data, 
• Support quantitative analysis of SIGI Uganda data, 
• Assist in the preparation of findings for public presentations and reports; 
• Contribute to the production of the team’s other publications and papers on gender and development, including research, drafting and liaison with key stakeholders;
• Assist in the coordination of the gender team’s public events; and
Produce articles and content for the Wikigender as required. 


Education and experience
• Currently undertaking or recently completed post-graduate studies in gender, economics, development and/or statistics;
• Be a registered student in an academic institution that has or is willing to sign an OECD Memorandum of Agreement relating to traineeships. 


Core Competencies
• Strong interest in gender and development issues, demonstrated through previous experience in the field (courses, thesis, internships, etc)
• Excellent communication in English and organisational skills;
Proven ability to carry out quantitative analysis and econometrics using standard statistical software packages (Excel, Stata); and
• Fluency in the use of standard software applications (MS Office).


Ideally, the trainee would start by 8 September 2014 for a duration of six months full-time. The Organisation provides a monthly stipend currently of 483 Euros for a full-time basis. The trainee will need to make independent arrangements for travel and accommodation as well as to be duly covered for health and social insurance.
