Global Macroeconomic Analysis


Internship Description:
The IIF is seeking a highly motivated graduate student to support its global macroeconomic research. This unpaid internship offers an excellent opportunity to develop applied research skills in international economics and finance. Working hours and start date are flexible. Responsibilities include conducting applied economic research on current macroeconomic and financial developments in advanced and emerging economies; helping to prepare reports, charts and tables; and contributing to the production of the IIF’s economic forecasts. Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be enrolled in a Master’s program in Economics, Finance, Statistics or a related field. Must be fluent in English. Strong computer and quantitative skills, especially in Excel, are absolutely essential. Experience with data providers such as Bloomberg or Datastream would be an advantage.  The approximate internship period is from late May to late August.  During this period, the successful candidate will be available for four days or more per week.

US ITC Internship

Office of Economics - Summer Internship Program
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 5, 2013

The Agency: The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) is an independent Federal agency that adjudicates import injury cases and provides the President and Congress with high quality analysis and technical support on international trade, tariff, and competitiveness issues. The Office of Economics (EC) is charged with providing economic research and analysis on U.S. international trade conditions in general.

Job Summary: Office of Economics interns work as part of a team conducting research and analysis,
compiling data, and preparing analytical reports. Interns work closely with economists from all three
divisions of the Office: Country and Regional Analysis, Research, and Applied Economics. Work
assignments will be determined by the intern’s skill set and project needs.

Graduate student interns can expect to perform economic analysis and/or research relevant to USITC
programs. These activities may entail literature reviews and other targeted research, manipulating
databases for ongoing research and analytical reports, and summarizing research findings through written products. They will collect detailed economic data and use statistical software to manipulate datasets.  They can also expect to do some data entry and data management for import injury investigations and other studies.

Candidates should have experience/interest in international trade and economics, as well as the ability to manipulate and present data using MS Excel, STATA, SAS, E-views, and/or other statistical software.  The position is unpaid but may qualify for class credit. If selected for the position, the USITC will complete a volunteer agreement with your school. The duration is 10 weeks.

OFFICE OF INDUSTRIES, NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENERGY DIVISION
This single position is open to current graduate students for the 2013 Spring Semester. The position entails working as a member of a team in conducting research and contributing to analysis on issues related to clean energy goods and services, with particular emphasis on examining global markets and trade activity for smart grid technology and renewable energy related services. The position will also entail manipulating databases to produce targeted data sets for use in ongoing analytical reports.

Candidates should have experience/interest in international trade and economics, as well as the clean energy/technology industry. The position is unpaid but may qualify for class credit. If selected for the position, the USITC will complete a volunteer agreement with your school.

This single position is open to current graduate students for the 2013 Spring Semester.  The position entails working as a member of a team in conducting research, data compilation, and contributing to analysis on international trade and competitiveness issues related to technology and manufacturing goods and industries.

Potential projects may include examining global markets and trade in smart grid technology, barriers and policies in trade for telecommunications goods and services, and research on trade in digital goods or environmental goods.  These activities may entail literature reviews and other targeted research, manipulating databases for use in ongoing analytical reports, and summarizing research findings through written products.

Candidates should have experience/interest in international trade and economics, as well as the ability to manipulate and present data, and write research findings cogently. The position is unpaid but may qualify for class credit. If selected for the position, the USITC will complete a volunteer agreement with your school.

ERS Position--Ag Economist

The Economic Research Service (ERS) conducts broad programs of economic and other social science research and analysis relating to agriculture, food, natural resources and rural America for use by public and private decision makers. ERS' clients are the executive and legislative branches; environmental, consumer and public interest groups, including farm and industry groups; and the general public.

The Resource and Rural Economics Division (RRED) provides high quality, relevant, and objective information and economic analysis on interactions among natural resources, environmental quality, and agricultural and non-agricultural activities in rural communities. RRED monitors and analyzes the multiple links between the rural economy--agriculture and nonagricultural sectors--and natural resources and environmental quality.

The Farm and Rural Business Branch (FRB) develops, interprets and disseminates current analyses and longer term perspectives on the financial structure, performance, and viability of farms, the farm sector, and rural areas.

 DUTIES: The incumbent performs economic analysis and research, either providing technical support to higher graded economists, or independently performing assignments in accordance with established precedents. Specifically, the incumbent's assignment involves analysis and research to help determine the level and distribution of farm income and the value-added, assets and debt of farms and the farm sector.

The incumbent, working on project teams, conducts limited economic analyses and research related to the financial position and performance of farms and the farm sector in the U.S. economy. The incumbent helps plan and conduct economic analyses and assists other economists by conducting segments of larger, more complex studies undertaken by the Agency. The primary focus of the incumbent's work is assisting in the establishment of estimates and forecasts of farm income and value-added and farm assets and liabilities, providing perspective on changes in the economic and financial environment affecting farm operations and the farm sector that are distributed through a variety of electronic and print media.
